IS 2782:2023
Dear Reader, Here’s an important update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers dealing with Refined Nickel, as per the Refined Nickel (Quality Control) Order, 2025.
The Ministry of Mines, under the authority of Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, has issued the Refined Nickel (Quality Control) Order, 2025.
This Order mandates that Refined Nickel must conform to Indian Standard IS 2782:2023 and bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcement authority for this order.
This Order applies to all goods or articles categorized as Refined Nickel, whether manufactured domestically or imported into India.
However, products manufactured exclusively for export are exempted, provided they comply with the specific requirements of the foreign buyer.
Non-compliance with the provisions of this Order will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Manufacturers, importers, and sellers must ensure that their products meet the prescribed Indian Standard and are covered under a valid BIS license before sale or distribution in the Indian market.
