IS 8637:2020
Dear Reader, We would like to bring your attention to an important regulatory update concerning the H Acid (Quality Control) Order, 2024. This update is relevant for all existing BIS licence holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers involved in the production or distribution of H Acid in India.
The Government of India has released a Draft Quality Control Order for H Acid under the BIS Act, 2016. According to this Order, any H Acid product intended for sale in the Indian market must strictly adhere to Indian Standard IS 8637:2020. Once the Order comes into effect, manufacturers and sellers must ensure that every H Acid product:
Conforms to IS 8637:2020
Bears the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license issued as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018
Products manufactured exclusively for export are exempt from these requirements, provided they meet the specifications demanded by the foreign buyer.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order across the country. Any deviation or non-compliance may result in penalties under the BIS Act, 2016.
Additionally, any future revisions or amendments issued by BIS for IS 8637:2020 will automatically become applicable to this Order from the date of publication.
